Title
[LB031028], Letter from Alfred Ord Tate to Jesse Seligman, June 22nd, 1889
Editor's Notes
Mr. Edison has requested me to call your attention to a toy phonograph invented in 1879 by one Lambrigot, wherein wax was used and the record made by cutting the wax with a knife. A description of this invention is published in "La Nature" edited by Tissandier, 1879 page 349, and the same method of cutting is also [two lines at top of 2nd page unclear; seem unconnected to flow of letter text] explained in Mr. Edison's British patent of 1878 but not so clearly as in "La Nature." Mr. Edison wishes me to bring this before you so as to put you on your guard against the impudent and false assertions of the proprietors of the Graphophone as to their being the first inventors of this device and their ability to hold the same in any country. Yours very truly, AO Tate
