Title
[LB031033], Letter from Alfred Ord Tate to Holland Society of New York, George West Van Siclen, June 24th, 1889
Editor's Notes
Mr. Edison has received your communication under date 19th instant, stating that he has been nominated by Mr. Gen. W. Van Siclen for membership in the Holland Society of New York, and asking him to send his genealogy in direct male line from a Dutchman who settled in America before A.D., 1675. ### I know that a few years ago some enterprising genealogist traced Mr. Edison's ancestry back as far, I think, as the year A.D. 1600, but Mr. Edison has no copy of this record, nor do we know at present time where it could be found, and Mr. Edison has no other data, excepting family tradition. He knows that his great-great-grandfather was a Banker on Manhattan Island, and his ancestors in direct male line were among the very early settlers upon the ground. Perhaps you, who are familiar with those matters, might kindly suggest a way in which I could have this traced. Yours very truly, AO Tate
