Title
[LB031076], Letter from Alfred Ord Tate to Philip Gengembre Hubert, Jr., June 26th, 1889
Editor's Notes
"I wrote Mr. Lippincott some time ago in regard to your phonograph, and I saw him personally the other day, when brought the matter up. He asked me if you understood that it would be impracticable for him to give you a phonograph and pass title to it. He says that he will be very glad to let you have a machine and make you a rebate of the full amount of the annuity which is charged others. This would be practically the same as though you owned the machine, and I told him that I was sure it would be quite satisfactory to yourself. Of [unclear] the North American Phonograph Co. cannot relinquish its title in any phonographs, a technically which probably will not [unclear] your peace of mind. I think Mr. Lippincott can let you have this machine at any time if you will apply for it and let him know where to send it." Yours very truly, A.O. Tate
