- [Excerpted in letter from Insull to English of July 18] 'We are putting in treadle machines here and supplying power with small motor of Company already established for running sewing machines; it is a rather cumbersome system, but the best we can do. As there are no dynamos in San Francisco which will supply a current of the right voltage and quantity for the motor phonograph, and to obtain one and establish a station would involve a delay of at least three months.'"
