Title
[LB033046], Letter from Thomas Alva Edison to Porfirio Diaz, October 9th, 1889
Editor's Notes
"Upon the eve of the introduction of the phonograph to the people of the Republic over which you so ably preside, it has seemed to me a fitting preliminary that its acquaintance be made by yourself, and I have, therefore, taken the liberty to send you through my friend Mr. Thomas E. Connery, a machine for your own use. ### This is the first one of my perfected instruments to enter the Republic of Mexico, and in asking your kind acceptance of the same it is with the hope that in its capabilities you may find not only pleasure but that it may to some extent assist in lightening the labors of an office whose manifold duties have but served to heighten the esteem in which you are held by the people of your won and other countries." I am, Dear Sir, Yours very truly, THOMAS A. EDISON
