Title
[LB033097], Letter from Alfred Ord Tate to Sherburne Blake Eaton, October 12th, 1889
Editor's Notes
"You will remember mentioning to me in your office the other day the matter of recording on each phonograph the numbers of the patents under which the machine is constructed. You expressed doubt that this had been done. I have looked into the matter, and find that every machine that has been sent out, with the exception of about 24 instruments, has had a plate bearing the date of each of the U.S. patents issued on the phonograph. The 24 machines mentioned had no plates on them. Several of them were sent out before the plates were ready, but engraved on a body on each instrument was a record similar to that which now appears upon the places." Yours truly, A.O. Tate
