- In reply to your letter of 21st instant addressed to Mr. Edison, asking if electricity can actually be stored, would say that an electric current is passed through a storage battery for the purpose of charging it. It produces in the battery a chemical action or state which afterwards results in a flow of electricity through the battery. The electricity is not actually stored, but the practical effect is the same as though it were. Yours truly, A.O. Tate
