Col. George E. Gouraud,
No. 74 Madison Avenue,
New York City.
Dear Sir:-
I beg to acknowledge receipt of your message transmitted by telephone yesterday, to the effect that you have an important communication from Mr. Gladstone intended to be delivered through the medium of the phonograph before a meeting of the Executive Council of the Working Men's Co-operative Building-Loan Associations of the United States, to be held in the Board Room of the Equitable Life Association either Thursday or Saturday afternoon, and, as Chairman of the Committee of Arrangements, inviting me to be present; also requesting that a phonograph of the most perfect condition, together with other material, be prepared immediately, and addressed to you at the Board Room of the Equitable Life Association, #120 Broadway, New York.
I hardly think it will be possible for me to be present on the occasion in question. I will, however, send an Expert, together with two machines and all necessary appliances for reproducing Mr. Gladstone's speech. Please notify me as early as possible in regard to the day and hour when the meeting is to take place.
Yours very truly,
Thos A. Edison
