Fredrick E. Rands, Esq.,
Oakville, Ipswich, England,
Dear Sir:-
With reference to your letter of 19th March last, directing Mr. Edison's attention to recent explosions in two Welsh coal mines, which were probably caused by miners using naked lights, I beg to inform you that Mr. Edison is at present designing a battery for use in connection with a miner's electric lamp.
The battery for supplying the current will be carried in the hand, and will be of a very light and portable design.
This lamp, when completed, will be a great improvement types, and will be completely safe.
Yours very truly,
A.O. Tate
