Dear Sir:-
I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 20th ultimo, which reached me in the course of mail. In compliance, with your request, I immediately [illegible text] with the [illegible text] Machine Company, of Salem Virginia, making them for their lowest possible quotations on cigarette machine for use in Italy, and I am this morning in receipt of a letter from the President of the Company, Mr. D.B. Strouse, referring me to [illegible text]. Schilling and Bruning, of Bremen, Germany, who are the company’s European agents. These gentlemen, the President informs me, are making prices of machines to Italy very low and are empowered to deal with purchasers as in their judgment may seem best. Trusting that you may be able to make satisfactory terms with them.
