August 3, 1891.
H. Ward Leonard; Esq., Gen’l. Manager,
Light & Power Dep’t., Edison Gen’l. Electric Co.,
New York City.
Dear Sir:-
I have read your letter of 28th ultimo, asking for my views on the subject of insulation required for overhead lines used for the transmission of power and employing high electro motive force. In reply I beg to say that I do not believe any insulation. Extra heavy steel guard wires are the thing. I would like to see proposed insulation for 5,000 volts that would last out of doors six weeks. I would like to have a sample sent to me.
Yours very truly,
Thomas A. Edison
