E.H. Lewis Esq.,
Care of Messrs. Eaton & Lewis.
Edison Building, Broad St., N.Y.
Dear Sir:-
Referring to the search which has been made at the Laboratory for information in regard to sums of money paid Mr. Edison for patents on telegraphy, we have found a lot of old memoranda in Mr. Edison’s hand-writing which it is impossible for anyone but himself t explain. The moneys which he received are in these acknowledged, but I have no idea that these records are complete. I think the best way for you to do is to go to the Laboratory sometime when Mr. Edison is there, take these old records, and have him give you an explanation as far as he is able to do so. It seems to me that this would be more satisfactory than getting it through a second person; however, consult your pleasure, and if you wish to have Mr. Edison’s explanation taken by a stenographer, I will see that it is done. I have thought, however, that there may be a good many questions that you would like to ask at the time Mr. Edison’s mind is working upon these subjects.
Yours truly,
A.O. Tate
