Sept. 28, 1891.
Mr. S. P. Carr,
Messrs. Carr & Dickinsons,
RICHMOND, VA.
Dear Sir:-
Mr. Edison has read your letter of 26th instant and in reply has instructed me to say that in the farmer tobacco experiments which he conducted, every known method of accomplishing what you desire, including electricity, was [illegible text], and they all resulted in giving to the tobacco a foreign taste.
At the present time Mr. Edison is very heavily occupied with important work which calls for his attention night and day, and it would be impossible for him to take up these tobacco experiments. He may, however, find it possible to do so later on.
Yours very truly,
AO Tate
Private Secretary.
