[illegible text] Feb. 5th, 1892/ B. L. Slack, Esq., St. Louis United Elevator Co., St. Louis, Mo. Dear Sir:- With reference to your letter of 2nd instant, I beg to inform you that most of the standard Encyclopedias contain a biographical sketch of Mr. Edison. There have been several books published on the subject, one of which is issued by Cassell & Co. of New York, and is entitled “Edison and Morse,” a perusal of which I am sure would be helpful in the preparation of your proposed paper. I take pleasure in sending to you, by this mail, under a separate cover, a copy of a little pamphlet which contains a brief sketch of Mr. Edison’s life and also an account of each of his inventions, from which you could perhaps compile sufficient data for your purpose. Numerous newspaper articles have of course appeared in regard to Mr. Edison and his inventions. One of these which I recall to mind at the moment is contained in “Frank Leslie’s Weekly,” issue of May 9th, 1891, under the caption of “A Visit to the Edison Laboratory,” from which you might also be able to glean some useful data. Trusting that the information contained in the foregoing day be of service to you, I am Yours very truly, A. O. Tate Private Secretary. M.
