April 13, 1892. Samuel Insull, Esq., 2nd Vice-Pres’t., Edison General Electric Co., New York City. Dear Sir:- Mr. Edison has read your letter of 12th instant, and in reply has directed me to say that the tests which your Cable Department desires made as to the percentage of tin that should go into the load used in lead covering, are now being conducted at the Laboratory. The experiments which the Pennsylvania Railroad people wish made to assist them in determining whether an underground cable system for telegraphic purposes is practicable and capable of successful operation, are about to be taken up at the Laboratory, and the work will be proceeded with with all possible [illegible]. The necessary wire is already ordered and upon its receipt the work will be commenced. The experiments will not be expensive. Yours truly, A.O. Tate Private Secretary.
