Messrs. D. De Sola Mendes & Co.,

Dear Sirs:--
Mr. Edison is much obliged for your letter of 3rd inst., contents of which he has noted.
Have you any rough sapphires in stock? If so, Mr. Edison would like your permission to send his Superintendent to examine the sapphires, and determine whether or not they would be suitable for his purpose.
Awaiting your reply, I am,
Yours very truly,
A.O. Tate
Private Secretary.
