Dear Sir:-
Mr. Edison has received your letter of the 19th ultimo, in regard to the orthography of the word “Mimeograph,” under which name one of his inventions is being sold, and he notes your remarks concerning the correct spelling of the same.
By direction of Mr. Edison I am referring your letter to the Company which controls the Mimeograph, with a request that they consider the advisability of making the alteration that you suggest in the interest of correct etymology.
Mr. Edison has asked me to interrogate you as to the correctness, etymologically and analogically, of the word “Kinetograph”, by which name the last of his inventions has been designated. The instrument is designed for recording objects in motion. Mr. Edison awaits your reply to this inquiry with interest. Permit me to thank you in his behalf for your letter now under reply, in which we are much interested.
Yours very truly,
A.O. Tate
