March 26th 1894 Alex Elliott Jr Esq Paterson. N. J Dear Sir:- I beg to advise you that Mr Edison made the following memorandum on your letter dated March 24th 1894 "I am sorry you said anything to De Camp about Ball and Norton. They will use that by [saying we?] are trying to get a license, etc. I would [not] take a license as a gift, only impression is that you should offer $ 500 cash to [Deld.?] for a year option at 15000. There is only an average of 18% ore in the lot, its hard enough to work that and make a profit without paying an unreasonable price. His price makes it the highest priced Iron Mine in New Jersey at present moment. We do not want anyone to go through Mill until its finished." Yours truly J F. Randolph
