Friend Bowker. I am sorry to learn that you are compelled to go abroad, but as a mans eyes are worth more to him than the possession of the world it is the right thing to do – You are certainly entitled to a good Vacation – Nothing that I have seen in the management line goes ahead of the record shown in your last annual report No management can be successful that does not try experiments with the public, boards of directors are never in favor of experiments. Regarding the Syndicate, [It?] was is probably be unjust to hold any one to it. The changes that had to be made on account of snow and ice caused the delay – They are now finished and we start up for another test Wednesday – I expect that everything will be ready before March and I can probably pull through somehow as the profit promises larger than at first thought, and my phonograph is bringing in a lot of money I shall be on [deck?] with the [illegible] trust money, if they want it. [illegible] is coming on well – I hope you will have a good time & return o.k. Yours Edison
