- "Your cable message was received promptly yesterday [unclear] and a few moments later Mr. Pierce left the box of phono[unclear]. I went to Orange with the phonograms and handed them to [unclear]. They appeared to be in good condition. There was no machine in working order so I did not hear [unclear]. Mr. Edison was unable to say when he could send you [unclear] machine but promised to let me know today but up to this hour, five o'clock, I have heard nothing from him. He got back from Chautauqua yesterday morning and was very busy. Mr. Tate said that your letter by the "Etruria" has been received. ### The Captain has just been in to say that the "Edith" ought to be [unclear] but again as she is leaking a great deal; makes about [unclear] water in a night. I told him I would not have her [unclear] became absolutely necessary and I hope [unclear] some positive instructions in regard to [unclear].
