Title
[MU039], Letter from John Trowbridge to Francis Robbins Upton, December 16th, 1879
Editor's Notes
The armature of the Siemens machine wh. I used has 8 divisions & the commutator is divided to correspond. A wire is attached to one section of commutator, then wound lengthwise the armature in one division until hafl full, armature turned 1/8th rev. wire attached to next section of commutator and the division of armature there presenting now half full as before. This is continued until armature is full. It is plain that while pieces of wire may be used, practically one wire is taken which has 8 connections to commutators. 2. The current flows as in the Gramme. 3. Bruses. 4. Think not: believe that connections remain in [turn starts as when macine was bought?] The Siemens machine is described in Holcombs patent taken out in 1876. I believe I have answered your questions categorically. I I can be of any assistance I shall always be happy to asst you.
