Title

[MU047], Letter from Henry Augustus Rowland, Johns Hopkins University to Thomas Alva Edison, March 9th, 1880

Editor's Notes

Waiting to receive your list of instruments but it hasn't come. "I will bring my own instruments as they are the only ones in the country whose constants are known in absolute measure." Three ways of experimenting: 1) your dymamometer; 2) resistance of lamp & quantity of current passing through it; 3) heat water by lamp. Last is probably most accurate for rough experiment; will need thin copper vessel & lamp with insulated wires. Should try all 3 methods. What size wire will not heat too much by current to the lamp? Also write how high your resistance boxes go, and what kind of tangent galvanometer you have.
