- TAE believes he has found a way to destroy yellow fever germs. However, he believes that caustic soda will be better than gasoline since gasoline will not be easily absorbed by wet ground. Since they have no yellow fever to work with, they "can only draw upon analogy."
- Edison claims pouring gasoline over infected region should be sufficient for extermination and effectual check of yellow fever, based on theory that sufficient cold will kill all forms of organic life
