Edison has made himself wealthy through his inventions and is "indeed the richest of all living inventors." Gilliland and Tomlinson owned 1/7 of the whole stock of the phonograph and sold it at a quarter million, so TAE infers that 6/7 must be worth more than the $500,000 he sold his share for. "This case interest the public so far as it illustrates Edison's profits."
