"St Paul Dispatch" "When the sounding funnel is not attached to the machine only a faint sound can be distiguished, and as Prof. Clarkson was adjusting the points for a piece of band music, previous to putting in the funnel, Dr. Eastman caught the indistinct notes of the base horn and cornet."
while Prof. Clarkson sets up the phonograph, Dr. Eastman thinks he ought to "hold his horse [tied to a post on the street below] while that band goes by"
