Title
[X154A5AC], Letter from Frank Seymour Hastings to Uriah Hunt Painter, January 11th, 1886
Editor's Notes
Received yours of the 8th inst. informing me that the board had no right to sell your 10 shares; the company counsel does not agree with you; I had no hand in this matter, though you seem to hold me responsible.###The amount Johnson paid for you on 14 shares has been credited and we will issue a certificate for them in place of the installment receipt for 24 shares that you sent me; can't endorse on that installment receipt payment on account for 1 68/100s shares; if you won't send that installment sheet, it is impossible to issue those shares or any further installment receipt; I'm willing to do anything in my power to accommodate you except what I am advised "is illegal and criminal, and which I know will subject me to imprisonment in jail."
