- Morning papers say the River and Harbors Committee yesterday recommended appropriations for points in Pennsylvania; that means the engineers' report must have reached the committee; have asked Barclay to confer with you and look after the appropriations for Sodus Bay, New York, and Ashtabula, Ohio; Ashtabula people are preparing petitions to send to Mr. Warren; Sodus people are doing same to send to Mr. Payne; essential that appropriation of $65,000 be made for Big Sodus Bay and also a liberal one for Ashtabula.
