- Editor's Notes
- Your note from Norfolk was not recd until Yesterday PM-- It however confirmed what I had already heard, as to PRR position etc. I could understand the situation i.e. cannot see why NYC made the reduction in the manner or term she did##In the long interview with Depew yesterday published in Evng Post he justifies action of NYC by charging secret cutting [on various word] including the PRR, especially an East Bound & then says they suffered PRR was doing the sam thing on West bound, hence reduction by NYC. It was rumored yesterday or referred to in NY Tribute today that correspondence had passed between somebody & DePew & Roberts to the effect that the Interstate law would reach the case as NYC charged secret cutting & that NYC has been asked to furnish the evidence etc-- We must keep track of this for we ought to make some money out of the [litigation?].##The mkt is bullish but cannot be counted on to hold if this trunk line matter is not fixed Try to find out something from Lippincott. Suppose he will report on Monday. Bergmann called yesterday & said he & EHJ were in favor of insisting on the poiu of flesh. Of course my position is to receive only if Lippincott calls. I hall turn him over to you. 11:30 am Lippincott has just called & shewed me your telegram I did not say I had heard from you. He gave me a check for $26,250. viz the amount due & said he wants to go West Monday to make arangements for more money, as the Election etc had delayed some of his arrangments. What he wants is to get your consent to extend until Nov 30th & as he could not see you before Wednesday & wans to know Monday, I told him to telegraph or write you at Wash D. for your consent, which I told him you would doubtless give His payment at 1/2, is really good faith & you cannot afford to be mean. I told him I was writing you. I suggst you telegraph him or me that you extend balance payment to Nov 30th as requested. I f he don't hear from you direct, he will call here about 10 am Monday as he wants to go to Phil @ 11 & on to Pittsburg that night. Are you coming here Monday? If you don’t come here but remain in Washington Monday I wish you would telegraph Barney at Mt Vernon Hotel Balto that you want to [test] the telephone between Balto & Wash on Postal line & then get Royce to go with you to Washington end & [---] it. I am getting that matter in good shae there will be money in it Iexpect to arrange for the Balto Co next week
