Title
[X154A8AU], Letter from Edward Hibberd Johnson to Uriah Hunt Painter, March 9th, 1889
Editor's Notes
My Dr U.H. Edison quarrelled with me becauase I had the temerity to differ with him as to the Phonograph matter Bergmann quarrelled with Reiff & now probably with you over the same thing--##Reiff opens the Ball with me by making a claim on me for what He didn’t' get from Bergmann knowing that He has now another sort to deal with.##U.H.P. now prefers to force a quarrel with me rather than express his mind to whether I have anything to give or to own##Very well so be it But understand me I quarrel with no one-- I never have & never will-- the Goulds, the Eckerts, the Drexels the Reiffs the Painters the large & the small fry both in this counry and in Europe, ravaged on either side of an internal strife I have invariable continued to be friends with me-- My enemies are all on the opposing camp-- I shall try to keep this record unbroken througout my life-- I took Edison's wholly unjust castigation in Silence. He is sorry for it today But isnt' man enough to own it.##I leave all this to you to force if you can you get not another word out of me Yours Truly E. H. Johnson
