The Thomas A. Edison Papers Digital Edition

This book, covering the years 1872-1877, consists of daybook entries, orders, cost accounts, petty cash accounts, and miscellaneous notes and accounts. Pages 3-25 cover the period February-September 1872 and contain daybook entries for the firm of Edison & Murray. Pages 27-54 record outgoing orders for December 1872-January 1875. Pages 60-126 contain cost accounts for research on various inventions. (A similar list can be found in NS-75-001, Unbound Notes and Drawings, Notebook Series.) The costs of developing the acoustic telegraph over the period November 1875-March 1877 are recorded on pages 132-141. Petty cash accounts kept by Charles Batchelor for the period July-December 1874 can be found on pages 150-161. A record of the delivery of telegraph equipment from November 1874 through May 1875 appears on pages 200-305. Mixes of various chemicals and their uses are described on pages 432-435. The spine of this book is labeled "DAY-BOOK." A two-page index precedes 516 numbered pages.
