The Thomas A. Edison Papers Digital Edition

This ledger contains accounts payable and receivable for the period June 1883-April 1886. Many of the accounts relate to the work of the Construction Department in building central stations. Included are records of canvassers' expenses, construction costs, and electrical consultants' salaries. Pages 1-63 contain expense accounts for the construction of various central stations during the period June 1883-September 1884. The latter part of the book contains accounts with companies and individuals which supplied or provided services to the Construction Department. The entries pertaining to each company or individual are scattered throughout the book. For example, there are five separate sets of entries for the account of Thomas A. Edison from June 1883 through April 1886 (pages 68-74, 113-116, 132-133, 201-206, 233-236). The book contains 400 numbered pages. The spine is labeled "June 1883 to Febry 1886," and "6." It is also stamped "Ledger No. 1. T. A. Edison Construction Department."
