[D7719-F] (D-77-19) Telephone

This folder contains correspondence and other documents relating to the invention of the telephone. The correspondents include Edison associate Edward H. Johnson; William Orton and George P. Prescott of Western Union; and Thomas B. A. David, who conducted a series of tests on Edison's and Alexander Graham Bell's telephones in 1877 to determine their effectiveness. In addition to the correspondence, there are several draft agreements with Franklin H. Badger of Montreal regarding the rights for Edison's telephone in Canada; and two draft agreements with George H. Bliss and Cornelius Herz pertaining to the marketing of the telephone in Continental Europe. Also included is a 24-page booklet by Johnson entitled "Telephone Handbook."

All of the documents have been selected except for duplicate copies of the agreements.
