This folder contains correspondence congratulating Edison on the celebration of his seventy-second birthday, along with other related documents. Included are letters from friends, business associates, children, and other well-wishers. The selected items include correspondence with phonograph wholesaler Walter E. Kipp about the gift of a box of seventy-two "Edison Birthday Special" cigars on behalf of the National Association of Disc Phonograph Jobbers. Also included is a telegram from steel magnate Andrew Carnegie, along with a letter from railroad engineer H. J. Force and a response from Edison remarking that he "is as lively as a buzz saw."
Approximately 5 percent of the documents have been selected. The unselected items include routine letters of acknowledgment prepared for Edison's signature. Some of the incoming letters bear marginalia by Edison indicating that the sender should be thanked.
