This folder contains three letters written by or addressed to Franklin D. Roosevelt in his capacity as acting Secretary of the Navy, along with two related letters in which Roosevelt is mentioned. Most of the correspondence concerns an unsuccessful attempt by Edison to obtain the discharge of Lt. William T. Brown, a nephew of sporting goods manufacturer Albert Goodwill Spalding. Also included is a letter regarding compensation for expenses incurred by Edison in producing storage batteries for the U.S. government during the war.
