[One letter from 1884 was added to this folder in December 2011.]
This folder contains letters from Lewis Miller (1829-1899) to his daughter, Mina Miller Edison, son-in-law Thomas Edison, and members of the Miller family. The eleven selected items cover the years 1884 and 1887-1898. Included is a letter to Edison recommending Cloyd M. Chapman (1875-1944) for a position at the laboratory or phonograph works. Edison subsequently hired Chapman, who remained in the inventor's employ until 1904. Also included is the draft of a letter from Miller to President William McKinley, written during the Spanish-American War, regarding the appointment of his son John V. Miller as an assistant engineer in the U.S. Navy.
Additional letters by Lewis Miller can be found in the Charles Edison Fund Collection.
