Description: This letterbook covers the period November 1878-July 1879. Most of the correspondence is by Edison and is in the hand of William Carman or Stockton L. Griffin, acting as Edison's secretary. The book contains material relating to the electric pen, the typewriter, the automatic telegraph, phonograph sales, foreign patents, and the foreign telephone and electric light businesses. Book and journal orders are scattered throughout the volume. Included also are several letters to ore prospectors from whom Edison was seeking platinum samples. Among the recipients are George H. Bliss, George E. Gouraud, Theodore Puskas, William E. Sawyer, and Lemuel W. Serrell. The spine is labeled "1878-1879" and is stamped "Letters." The book contains 492 numbered pages and an index. Approximately 20 percent of the book has been selected.
