Description: This letterbook covers the period July 1879-May 1880. Most of the correspondence is by Edison and is in the hand of Stockton L. Griffin or William Carman, acting as Edison's secretary. The book contains correspondence relating to a variety of subjects. Included are letters about the electric pen, the domestic and foreign telephone businesses, and royalty payments for telephone and telegraph patents. There are a few letters pertaining to the phonograph and the electric railroad and a technical note about a telephone annunciator. Included also are a few items of correspondence concerning the death of Charles P. Edison in October 1879 (see also D-79-14 ("Edison, T. A. -- Family"), Document File Series). Among the recipients are Edward H. Johnson and Lemuel W. Serrell. The spine is labeled "1879-1880" and is stamped "Letters." The book contains 887 numbered pages and an index. Approximately 20 percent of the book has been selected.
