Description: This letterbook covers the period May 1880-April 1881. Most of the correspondence is by Edison. There is also correspondence by William Carman and Charles L. Clarke. Most of Edison's letters are in the hand of Carman or Clarke, acting as Edison's secretary. The correspondence relates primarily to electric lighting. There are many letters about dynamos, steam engines, and bamboo supplies in Latin America. There is also some patent-related correspondence regarding assignments, fees, royalties, and litigation involving the telephone and multiplex telegraph. A few letters concern mining and electric railroads. Among the recipients are S. Bergmann & Co., Jose D. Husbands, Charles T. Porter, and Lemuel W. Serrell. The spine is labeled "1880-1881" and is stamped "Letters 10." The book contains 1,001 numbered pages and an index. Approximately 20 percent of the book has been selected.
