Description: This letterbook covers the period July 1882-November 1883. Most of the correspondence is by Edison. There is also correspondence by Samuel Insull. Most of Edison's letters are in the hand of Insull, acting as Edison's secretary. The correspondence and other documents in this volume relate to the electric light business in the United States and Europe. Of particular significance is a letter from Edison to Charles Batchelor containing drawings and descriptions of lamp improvements in Edison's hand. Other important recipients include Calvin Goddard and Edward H. Johnson. The spine is labeled "1882-1883" and is stamped "Letters Personal No. 1. T.A.E." The book contains 299 numbered pages; pages 27-299 are blank. There is no index. All the pages have been selected except for blank pages and duplicate copies.
