Description: This letterbook covers the period September-October 1883. Most of the letters are by Edison. There is also correspondence by Samuel Insull and Alfred O. Tate. Most of Edison's letters are in the hand of Tate, acting as Edison's secretary. Some of the letters relate to the purchase of supplies and equipment and to the payment of overdue bills. Other correspondence concerns the construction of central stations in Brockton and Lawrence, Massachusetts. There are also letters about cost estimates for central stations in Illinois, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Among the recipients are William S. Andrews, George H. Bliss, W. H. Dwelly, Jr., Harris & Robinson, John Kruesi, P. B. Shaw, and Frank J. Sprague. The spine is labeled "1883" and is stamped "Letters No. 2. T. A. Edison Construction Department." The book contains 529 numbered pages and an index. Approximately 40 percent of the book has been selected.
