Title: [LBCD3-F] (LM-016) Construction Dept Letterbook (1883)
Description: This letterbook covers the period October-December 1883. Many of the letters are by Edison. There is also correspondence by Samuel Insull and Alfred O. Tate. Most of Edison's letters are in the hand of Insull or Tate, acting as Edison's secretary. Some of the letters relate to the purchase of supplies and equipment, the payment of overdue bills, and the problems of meeting the payroll of the Edison Lamp Co. Other correspondence concerns the construction of central stations in Tiffin, Ohio, and Hazleton, Pennsylvania. There are also letters about cost estimates for central stations in Danbury, Connecticut; Newburgh, New York; and Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Among the recipients are J. F. Bunn, W. Preston Hix, W. D. Rich, P. B. Shaw, and Archibald Stuart. The spine is labeled "1883" and is stamped "Letters No. 3. T. A. Edison Construction Department." The book contains 503 numbered pages and an index. Approximately 30 percent of the book has been selected.
