- Description
-
This document is a photocopy of an Edison notebook dated September 1, 1908. The handwritten entries pertain primarily to Edison's boyhood in Port Huron, Michigan, and his early years as a telegrapher in Boston. Also mentioned are his trip to Wyoming in 1878 and his life in New York around 1885. The notes are all in Edison's hand, and in two places they bear the initials of his second wife, Mina Miller Edison. A label on the front cover contains the following typewritten notation: "Book No. 1 September 1, 1908. Mr. Edison's notes re Biography." The pages are unnumbered. Approximately 80 pages have been used. The original manuscript has not been located. The archives of the Edison National Historical Park holds a typescript prepared by Meadowcroft from Edison's notes. This typescript was the source for the transcriptions published in the appendixes to volumes 1 and 4 of the book edition of The Papers of Thomas A. Edison
