This notebook covers the period April 1879-March 1880. The entries are by Edison, Charles Batchelor, Francis Upton, Ludwig Boehm, Francis Jehl, and John W. Lawson. Most of the book consists of drawings of lamps and vacuum pumps. Earlier entries include notes on metal and alloy tests; notes on telephone experiments; and notes and drawings by Edison on generators and conductors. On page 195 is a drawing by Upton, depicting the incandescent lamp as "the phoenix arising from the fires of the past." The book contains 236 numbered pages followed by 4 unnumbered pages.
