This notebook covers the period February-July 1879. Most of the entries are by Edison and Francis Upton. There are also a few entries by Charles Batchelor. Most of the material relates to experiments on electric light and power. Included are drawings of lamps, vacuum pumps, and meters; notes, drawings, and calculations about generators; notes and calculations about electric power distribution; and a patent specification by Edison concerning lamps, which William Carman copied into Volume 3 of Experimental Researches (missing volume). There are also notes and drawings relating to the electromotograph receiver, including notes about chalks for the receiver. The label on the front cover is marked "Platinum notes &c" and "Wires." There is also a table of contents on the cover. The book contains 284 numbered pages.
