This notebook covers the period November 1879-July 1880. Most of the entries are by Francis Upton and relate to electric lighting. There are also notes and drawings by Charles Batchelor on the telephone. The Upton material includes notes, calculations, and drawings of meter tests; tests of bast fibre and other carbon filament lamps; tests of a small motor; and calculations on boilers. The label on the front cover is marked "Meters &c." The book contains 282 numbered pages. The following pages are blank: 4-7, 10-23, 210-211, 250-251, 254-255, 258-259, 262-263, 266-267, 270-271.
Pages 275-277 and 280-281 contain a series of cost estimates that begin in Menlo Park Notebook #48 (N-79-07-05). These cost estimates were published as Doc. 1958 in The Papers of Thomas A. Edison, Vol. 5.
