This notebook covers the period August-December 1880. Most of the entries are by Francis Upton and Hermann Claudius. There are also a few entries by Edison. The material by Edison includes notes and drawings of electric meters. The material by Upton (who was assisted by another laboratory worker, possibly William Hammer) includes notes and calculations relating to lighting and power consumption in the Pearl Street district, based on statistics from the New York survey books. The material by Claudius also includes calculations, tables, and notes on lighting and power consumption in the first district, based on the survey books. An index to Claudius's entries appears on page 130. The label on the front cover is marked "Dist I N York. see volume labeled 'New-York City' By 'Districts' Index folio-130." Another label is marked "Meters" and "N.Y." The book contains 284 numbered pages.
