These documents, which cover the period 1922-1931, include essays and poems written about Edison and his times. Five items have been selected. An essay by A. C. Landstadt describes the early years of the pioneering hydroelectric plant built in 1882 in Appleton, Wisconsin. A popular article by Maurice Holland of the National Research Council discusses the organization of the West Orange laboratory in 1927, as well as the extent to which Edison was personally responsible for guiding research. An essay by journalist H. Alan Dunn, approved by Edison in 1930, concerns the inventor's religious beliefs. Also included are two poems by Alice Marston Seaman and H. I. Phillips, written for a public audience on the occasion of Edison's death in October 1931.
