These letters, which cover the years 1898-1911, are from Robert Anderson Miller (1861-1911) to his younger sister, Mina Miller Edison. The letters concern the travels and domestic life of Miller and Edison family members; visits in Akron, Ohio, and West Orange, New Jersey; and the health of Edison and other family members. Included are several references to the illness of Mary E. Miller and her treatment at the Battle Creek Sanitarium in 1909. One letter acknowledges Edison's influence upon President William McKinley in recommending Miller as U.S. postmaster in San Juan, Puerto Rico. There is also discussion of the suicide of Edison's personal secretary, John F. Randolph, and the liquidation of the family business, Aultman Miller & Co.
The 22 selected letters are from Books #6 and #35 on the Charles Edison Fund microfilm. Click here for a list of all the correspondence books on the CEF microfilm. Nine additional letters by and to Robert A. Miller, originally from the CEF Collection, can be found in the Family Records Series in Part III and Part IV of the Thomas A. Edison Papers microfilm and digital editions. There are also 13 letters from Robert to his mother Mary Valinda Miller among the family letters at the Edison-Ford Winter Estates.
