Description: These letters are from Margaret A. Colgate (1861-1935) to Mina Miller Edison. Margaret was the wife of Richard M. Colgate, president of Colgate & Co. (later Colgate-Palmolive Co.), which manufactured perfumes and soaps in Jersey City. The Colgates were friends of the Edisons and their neighbors in Llewellyn Park until Richard's death in 1919. The letters relate primarily to Margaret's travels and social activities. There are occasional comments about the health of Thomas Edison and his son, William. The letters bear the day and month but no year. The earliest were probably written during World War I; the latest, a few weeks after Edison's death.
