[X453Z-F] Edison, Mina Miller -- Travel Journal (1937)
This item is a 162-page typescript of a diary kept by Mina Edison during a trip to Europe with her second husband, Edward Everett Hughes. The diary, which covers the period June 4-September 27, 1937, contains comments about visits to England, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, and Denmark. Included are remarks about Mina's nineteen-year-old grandson, John Edison (Jack) Sloane, who joined the couple in London and stayed with them until the end of their visit to Norway. Also mentioned are numerous American friends and other Americans whom Mina encountered in Europe. There are occasional references to Thomas Edison, as well as to other members of the Edison and Miller families and to previous visits to Europe made by Lewis, Jane, and Edward Miller. The entry for August 9 (p. 89) mentions the death of Mina's stepson, William Leslie Edison. The last page contains Mina's impressions of various cities she visited.
